A Castle of my Own

We've all had that dream. The one where we are doing something ordinary and something extraordinary happens.

I like to think of it as being plucked from obscurity and being given powers or wealth. Many books and movies are based on this theme. Whether the Main Character chooses to take on the new world is up to them.
Some are reluctant and even run from what they are being offered. Can you blame them? It's the unknown. The untaken path. Why would you want to shake up the status quo? What if this new power gets out of hand? Or the wealth becomes a burden or a cage? There can be unseen pitfalls to a sudden change.
Then there are those whos circumstances couldn't be any worse so they take the leap. These are the stories we are most familiar with. I think they are more enjoyable to read because the Main Character takes on a challenge that we ourselves might not dare to take. I'm not sure I wold accept being made a Princess and future ruler of a kingdom that I know nothing about. Nor would I want powers that segragate me from friends and family. That being said, I do appreciate reading about someone who does dare. Someone who sees the escape behind the offer.
I know you are thinking of different books and movies that you have enjoyed. What is your favorite aspect of this theme? Is it the new world itself or the journey?
